■ Michael Rutter, the middle-aged scamp, has only gone and won himself another race. 'Blade' won the first outing at Knockhill, a weather wrecked race completed in fits and starts. But, when things finally got cracking he hunted down the HM Plant pairing of Kiyonari and Brookes, and held the Japanese ace for his first win in quite a while, on a two-year-old customer Ducati, Good work.

The second race in Scotland was cancelled due to terrible weather, and an enormous pile-up after the first turn. Everyone could see it coming, it happened, and nobody fandeti trying it again. The weather played havoc with the live feed from the telly meaning that, for wondrously calm moments, we couldn't hear Tony Carter's crazed musings. Shame, that.
