On Saturday, March 12, 2011 Las Olas blvd will turn green for the 2nd annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Irish Festival. The parade will start at noon and go from S.E. 8th avenue to Andrews ave. The Irish Fest will be at Huizenga Plaza from 11:30 a.m. till 9 p.m.There will be live music, Irish cuisine and cultural activities. Last years event was a huge success with over one hundred entries, ranging from fire engines old and new, to classic cars with wily politicians on board. There were local high school marching bands, street performers, floats, and the bagpipe and drum corps from the New York City Police department. The event was kicked off by a United States Coast Guard helicopter flying a very low pass over the buildings of downtown making quite a lot of noise and wind as it hovered over the start of the parade. Mark your calendars with a green pen and decorate the family and your pets for a great green day of fun and libations on Las Olas! It is a day for all to be Irish for the day. This years sponsors are Green, Murphy and Murphy P.A. , Maguire's Irish Pub, Waxy O'Connor's and the City of Ft. Lauderdale.
