Bikes don't get much more fundamental than the Bonneville Tl00. This back-to-basics modern classic is exactly what it appears to be: an engine and two wheels, allied with a simple frame and swing-arm, topped with a traditional-looking gas tank, a mild-rise handlebar and a broad, flat scat. Like all the other Twins in Triumph's lineup, engine capacity is 865cc. Handling is sweet, light-stccring and very modcrn-standardish, while the bike is equipped with good-quality brakes and EFI disguised to look like carburetors.

The Spccdmastcr is a drag-style lake on the more classically styled America cruiser, distinguishing itself with blackcd-out engine and transmission cases, slash-cut mufflers, dual front disc brakes mounted on entirely different cast wheels, a contoured dual seat and a narrower handlebar. The Speedmaster runs the same air/oil-cooled, twin-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, doublc-downtubc chassis, and front and rear suspension as the Amcrica. Available in solid black or two-tone for a little more money, the Speedmaster offers a stripped-down essential cruising experience.

You want custom? You got it. The America cruiser became a bigger and better motorcycle when the air/oil-cooled, jet-black (with chromed covers) parallel-Twin grew in displacement from 790 to 865cc a few years ago, and the recent addition of EFI makes it even better. The bike exhales through reverse-cone mufflers that enhance its appearance. Other features include adjustable clutch and brake levers, nifty 12-spoke cast wheels and a comfortable passenger seal. Price goes up S200 with the selection of two-tone paint.

The Bonneville got a bit of a makeover last year, with a rolling forward of its retro timeframe to the 1970s instead of the swinging '60s. Upswept mufflers, shorter fenders, 1-inch lower seal and cast-alloy wheels help alter the look. Like the other Bonnie-based bikes, the good-running air/oil-cooled parallel-Twin gets electronic fuel injection, though the throttle bodies are designed to look like traditional carburetors. Also available: The Bonneville SE, with single-color or two-tone paint, a tachometer, polished engine covers and tank badges, all of which move the bike slightly upmarket.

Few sportbikes on the market offer as much performance and personality as the 675. It is competitive with every middleweight racer-replica out there, no matter the manufacturer or country of origin. Its very light weight and excellent power characteristics from the 675cc three-cylinder engine have kept it at the top of the performance list, year after year. Fully adjustable suspension includes high- and low-speed compression damping, providing a better compromise between track prowess and road comfort than previously offered.

Inspired by the liter-class Speed Triple, the Dayto-na 675-based Street Triple is one of the best naked bikes on the market. Its light weight and agile chassis make this one of the most fun and approachable machines you can buy. The price is pretty nicc, too, although the base model's inverted fork and single rear shock are non-adjustable. Engine tune is weighted a bit toward lower-end power, but it retains the 13,500-rpm redline of the previous Daytona engine. Also available: The Street Triple R, with fully adjustable front and rear suspension, plus radial-mount front brake calipers.

This Russian reproduction of a WWII BMW has literally stood the test of time. In recent years, Ural improved the lighting and ignition with modern electronics and switches, engine performance was boosted via Keihin carburetors and front-wheel braking was upgraded with Brembo components. Pictured is the T, a ncw-for-2010, onc-whecl-drivc, no-frills model that allows a rider to own a classic sidecar rig for under $10,000. Also available: The Tourist, Patrol, Gear Up and Retro are variations on Ural s basic sidecar platform; the Patrol Tis a lower-priced version of the standard two-wheel-drive Patrol.

"It looks like a wasp," someone said six decades and 16 million scooters ago, and thus the Vespa (Italian for "wasp") was born. That distinctive shape is still with us today in the top-of-the-line Granturismo Sport. Nothing retro about its liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine, though, which pushes the GTS 300 to more than 80 mph. The Super features black alloy wheels, a red front suspension spring and a black sport saddle that opens to reveal a spacious storage bin. Also available: The GTS 300 shares the same engine and chassis as the Super, but with subtler styling.

Introduced in 2006, the LX (the Roman numeral for 60) marked Vespa's 60th year in business. During that time, the little Italian "Wasp" has taken its place next to the Ford "Tin Lizzie" and Volkswagen "Beetle" as one of the world's favorite modes of transportation. The LX 150 cuts through snarled traffic and looks stylishly good while doing so. It'll nudge 60 mph and should deliver 72 mpg when ridden with a little discretion. The LX models—like all the Vespas—have fuel injection. A vintage-look LXV version of the 150 can be had for $800 more. Also available: The LX 50, fundamentally the same scooter but with a 49cc engine.
