Shtbike Challenge

NTIL NOW, THE SITTBIKE HAS PLOWED through a seemingly endless list of tough-guy challenges back flips, big air, races, trials, etc. We even went so far as to try and kill he thing but the Sh*tbike refused to die. It even survived surgery in the quest for another adventure. So I asked it to be the best man at my wedding. I'm sure that to some people, this might seem to be an easy assignment for the Softride, given its history and all, but the Sh*tbike is not one to take this kind of thing...

Trek Remedy

OUR FIRST RIDE ON THE REMEDY 9.8 WAS A CLANDESTINE RECONNAISSANCE MISSION IN BOOTLEG Canyon, Nevada, during Interbike's 2009 Outdoor Demo and from the moment we first plowed it through that unforgiving terrain, we knew we'd be putting lots of trail time on this bike. We were right Over the past year, we've spent covetable amounts of time on both of Trek's new carbon Remedy models (the 9.8 pictured here and the more expensive, top-end 9.9 version). And we've loved every minute of it. The Remedy...

Riding The Scottish Highlands Is Something

That warrants a separate trip, so we settle for the Trossach Hills, checking into the Wheels Cycle Centre and bunkhouse in Callander. We're coming in blind, not having studied our OS map and having had the local tourist BURBLING BROOKS, DARK PEAKS AND PINCH-FLATS HAVE MADE THE LAKES FEEL FIRMLY HOME BY THE TIME WE CRAWL BACK INTO AMBLESIDE James Brickel and James , sJp vtf& gr ' Richards forego the lift in favor of the stairs, Lake District. office demonstrate that ignorance of mountain...

The Peaks Is All I Rememberand More Above

Derwent water, we ride fast and furious down the Cut Gate trail. It is uncharacteristically dusty definitely not the Peaks I remember. Certainly luck is on our side with the weather, but it's not just the lack of frame-jamming clag that's setting this ride apart from my previous Peaks experiences. Ten years ago 1 was on a prized GT Zaskar LE hardtail, a sprightly machine whose triple-butted seatstays made it one of the best technical climbers I ever threw a leg over. Today I'm on a Yeii 575,...

285 CRANKBROTHERS.COM For 2010, Crankbrothers has upped the travel-and the ante with its new Joplin 4R post. Tine Joplin 4R has one more inch of travel than the original-recipe Joplin and also features improved innards to help mute slop and oil leakage. There are two variations of the post-one with a remote bar-mounted lever pictured here and another with a lever that sits under the front of the saddle (this version costs 245). The bar-mounted remote itself is a clever joystick-like unit that...

Frederick Pride

Who the hell is Jeff Schalk I just read your article on his riding Frederick, Maryland trails in Gambrill Park and ourwatershed. Unfortunately, it's obvious to us true Fredericktonians that have grown up here riding the trails for over 30 years that he doesn't know much about our area. First off, there is no Iceberg trail. I've never heard of it neither have any of my friends That grew up here as I know and have rode every trail in our 'Shed I'm not even going to get into all the trail names,...
