"I will try to fight for a sprint stage, though I know my rivals are strong. Maybe I don't have the same turn of speed as in the past, but that's a normal career progression; perhaps I will even go on the attack, something different from the usual.
"1 had bad luck last year: my approach to the race wasn't perfect and as soon as I felt good, I crashed on the stage to Barcelona. Then I had to withdraw, sick.
"However, my confidence is high at the moment because I did a strong first half of the season. I've had some problems recovering from the crash in California, but it should be OK. The Tour de France is THE race. It's important to be there; I understand that my popularity goes up just by being there."
