Caution

If the bearing race is not installed properly, the steering head pipe could be damaged.

CAlways replace the bearing balls and bearing races as a set. CWhenever the steering head is disassembled, replace the dust seal.

4. Check: Cupper bracket Clower bracket (along with the steering stem) Bends/cracks/damage ^ Replace.

INSTALLING THE STEERING HEAD

1. Lubricate: Cupper bearing Clower bearing Cbearing races

Recommended lubricant Lithium soap base grease

2. Install:

Clower ring nut © Qubber washer © Cupper ring nut © Clock washer © Refer to "INSPECTING THE STEERING HEAD" in chapter 3.

3. Install: Cupper bracket Csteering stem nut

NOTE:

Temporarily tighten the steering stem nut.

4. Install: Cfront fork legs Refer to "FRONT FORK".

NOTE:

Temporarily tighten the upper and lower bracket pinch bolts.
