TROUBLESHOOTING

The battery is not being charged.

Check:

1. main fuse

2. battery

3. charging voltage

4. startor coil assembly resistance

5. brush check

6. field coil resistance

7. main switch

8. wiring

(of the entire charging system)

CBefore troubleshooting, remove the following part(-s):

1) seat

2) fuel tank

3) headlight unit

CTroubleshoot with the following special tool(-s).

Engine tachometer

1. Main fuse

CCheck the main fuse for continuity. Refer to "CHECKING THE FUSES" in chapter 3.

Qs the main fuse OK?

2. Battery

CCheck the condition of the battery. Refer to "CHECKING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY" in chapter 3.

Open-circuit voltage 12.8 V or more at 20°C

Os the battery OK?

CClean the battery terminals. CRecharge or replace the battery.

3. Charging voltage

CConnect the engine tachometer to the spark plug lead of cylinder #1. CConnect the pocket tester (DC 20 V) to the battery as shown.

Tester positive probe ^

battery positive terminal Tester negative probe ^

battery negative terminal

CStart the engine and let it run at approximately 5,000 r/min. CMeasure the charging voltage.

Charging voltage 14 V at 5,000 r/min

Replace the fuse.
