For installation, reverse the removal procedure.

REMOVING THE CAMSHAFTS

1. Align: oT" mark on the timing plate (with the stationary pointer on the pickup coil base plate)

Xjr 1300 Valve Clearance

a. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise.

b. When piston #1 is at TDC on the compression stroke, align the "T" mark © with the pickup coil mark ©.

TDC on the compression stroke can be found when the camshaft lobes are turned away from each other.

2. Remove:

ctiming chain guide (top side) ©

3. Loosen:

cCamshaft sprocket bolts

5. Remove:

ctiming chain tensioner

To prevent the timing chain from falling into the crankcase, fasten it with a wire ©.

6. Remove:

ctiming chain guide (exhaust side) ccamshaft caps ©

NOTE:

For reference during installation, put identification marks on each camshaft cap.
